Specnet Blog - Google and its forever changing ranking algorithm

In order for Google to provide the best search results to its viewers they are constantly updating their algorithm which they use to rank the web sites stored on their database. The aim to ensure that the best results are given for any keyphrase used in the Google search box.

This year alone Googles algorithm has been changed 450 times, and it now takes into account 200 factors when looking at a web site and how it should be ranked.

How many times last year did you update your website to make the most of these 200 factors?

For 2009 it is being suggested that website with video content will race ahead of the ranking wars. Google are working on algorithms to look at soundtracks and convert them to text. Google may be able to jump into the middle of a video and convert the sound to relevant text which can then be ranked.

Although it is not yet guaranteed we suspect that if you don't have video content on your web site and your competition does, you may find a significant shift in the ranking of your website.

So as we move forward into 2009, it will be interesting to see how the ranking of many of the top 10 web sites is affected in the coming 12 months.
