Does your web site have an entry page? Does your web site need an entry page? If the answer is yes then my question to you is WHY?
An entry page is nothing more than an irritation to most viewers. An entry page is simply an image or animation with a button that says Enter Here. An entry page is just one more door to open before your viewer actually reaches the information they are after.
Just imagine the scenario; you’ve been scouring the internet via search engines to find someone who makes traditional dolls houses. You’ve spent an hour or two typing into search engines various key phrases to find the web site that is right for what you are looking for. You’re now getting a bit tired and coming to the end of your patients. But you have succeeded in finding a small number of web sites that partly fit the bill.
Eventually you find a web site on a search engine that looks promising, so you click on the link only to reach an Entry page. A lovely animation begins to play, but you’ve got to the point where you’re tired of surfing and just can’t be bothered for it to finish to enter the web site, so to save time you go back to one of the previous sites and make contact with them.
NEVER assume because you have a web site, yours is the only one that a viewer will come to for your product or service. People on the internet will surf for hours looking for the best deal they can, and they need you to make it easy for them.
This means one less click to get to the information they are after. A straight forward, easy to use navigation that leads to simple informative content. The more mouse clicks a viewer has to make on your web site to reach the information they are after, the less likely they are to spend the time to find it. Why should they? There was always that other web site that told them quickly and easily what they wanted to know.
Remember our golden rule at Specnet KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Make your viewers visit to your web site easy and efficient giving them a pleasant visitor experience, ensuring that they will re-visit and use your web site time and time again.
